Celebrities show support for DC statehood

District of Columbia officials are enlisting the help of Hollywood celebrities to bring attention to their push for statehood. Some of the stars joining the cause and Mayor Muriel Bowser include Elizabeth Banks, Tim Daly, Josh Gad, Ashley Judd and David Schwimmer and others. Bowser’s administration is putting a statehood referendum on the fall ballot so residents can vote on whether to send a constitution for the proposed new state to Congress. However, even if the referendum passes, Congress will have no obligation to act, and many consider statehood to be an impossible goal.
