Clinton declines debate with Sanders in California

Hillary Clinton’s top campaign spokeswoman said Monday that Clinton will not debate Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in California; Sanders had agreed to participate in the Fox News debate. Clinton’s refusal to participate in the debate suggests that her campaign is fully focusing on the general election against presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump. “As we have said previously, we plan to compete hard in the remaining primary states, particularly California, while turning our attention to the threat a Donald Trump presidency poses,” Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton’s spokeswoman, said.

Ex-Megadeth drummer dies

Former Megadeth drummer Nick Menza died after collapsing on stage during a show with his new band, Ohm, in California Saturday night. Paramedics couldn’t revive the 51-year-old and officials haven’t released a cause of death. Menza played for one of metal’s “Big Four”, Megadeth, for nine years in the early 1990’s. “The group’s bassist texted me last night after it happened,” Ohm’s manager Steve Bauer told CNN. “We are all still in shock.” Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine tweeted, “Tell me this isn’t true.”

Loudoun County propose changes to noise standards

In order to accommodate the Virginia Supreme Court ruling that the “reasonable person” standard is too vague for noise violations, Loudoun County is proposing changes to its noise standards. Under the proposed rules, noise will be measured based on what is “audible and discernible” versus “reasonable.” Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputies will have new guidelines for deciding whether loud music and barking dogs are too loud. The proposed changes would impact zoning rules that apply to businesses and the county code covering residences. A public hearing will be held on July 13.

Officer acquitted in Gray case; prosecutor faces criticism

Baltimore’s top prosecutor is facing criticism that she was too hasty in filing charges against the six officers involved in the case of Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old man whose arrest and subsequent death triggered riots in Baltimore one year ago. Baltimore Circuit Judge Barry Williams who was overseeing the cases said the state failed to prove its case, and the most recent officer on trial, Edward Nero, was acquitted of all charges brought against him. Nero was the second officer to go on trial for Gray’s death, with Officer William Porter’s trial ending in a mistrial with a deadlocked jury in December. After Nero’s acquittal, his lawyers said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby rushed to charge the officers. The trial of the officer who prosecutors feel is the most culpable, Caesar Goodson, is set to being in two weeks. He is charge with second-degree murder.
