Marcus Miller pays tribute to African roots on new album

Influenced by his work as spokesperson for UNESCO’s Slave Route Project, American Jazz composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Marcus Miller takes fans on an electrifying musical journey on new album “Afrodeezia.” Miller’s new project explores how rhythms and melodies brought over from Africa shaped the music of the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean. The album is an eclectic mix of West African Highlife, Avant-Garde Jazz, Brazilian and Calypso flavored beats, and everything in between. Miller collaborated with: alto saxophonist Alex Han, vocalist Lalah Hathaway, Delta blues guitarist Keb’ Mo, Motown guitarist Wah Wah Watson, keyboardist Robert Glasper, steel pan drummer Robert Greenidge, rapper Chuck D. (Public Enemy), and other African and Brazilian backup singers. He even pays tribute to his church organist father on a blues and gospel-influenced track. Miller stated that music has the ability to heal, and helped his ancestors persevere through the worst of times.
