“The Simpsons” renewed for two more seasons

Fox announced on Monday that they have renewed animated comedy series “The Simpsons” for its 27th and 28th seasons, which will carry it to a total of 572 episodes. “The Simpsons” is the longest-running American sitcom, the longest-running American animated program, and in 2009 it surpassed “Gunsmoke” as the longest-running American scripted primetime television series. “The Simpsons” cast includes Dan Castellaneta as dad Homer (with his trademark catchphrase “d’oh!”), Julie Kavner as mom Marge and Nancy Cartwright as mischievous, trouble-making son Bart. The network’s announcement included a boast from Homer that his doughnut addiction helped him outlast David Letterman, Jon Stewart and Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd from “Grey’s Anatomy.” It has won dozens of awards since it first debuted as a series back in 1989, including 31 Primetime Emmy Awards, 30 Annie Awards, and a Peabody Award.
