Threats and hacks against Sony Pictures Entertainment this past month have led the company to cancel the New York City premiere of upcoming movie “The Interview.’ The Seth Rogen and James Franco movie tells the story of a talk show host who gets an interview with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, only to be asked by the CIA to assassinate him. Opponents of the film hacked Sony, have promised lawsuits and threatened violent attacks on any theater showing the film if it premieres. The threats come from a group calling themselves Guardians of Peace, and are suspected to have ties to the North Korean government. That body said earlier this year that the release of the film would constitute an “act of war that we will never tolerate.” The Department of Homeland Security says there is no credible threat so far, but will continue to analyze messages.
