iTunes users have been surprised by the automatic download of band U2’s new album directly to their accounts and devices Thursday. Apple announced the new album, Songs of Innocence, would be offered free on iTunes at its product launch press conference Tuesday, but made no mention of the opt-out delivery format of this crash release. U2 last released an album, No Line on the Horizon, in 2006. No promotion has been held related to this album, which is slated to have a physical release in October.
