World’s smallest theater opens its doors to public

The world’s smallest theater just opened its doors in Manhattan. Theatre for One is a 4-foot-by-8 foot portable theater that allows one person at a time to view one short play performed by a single actor. The miniature theater will be temporarily parked in three Manhattan locations for the next two months, as well as offering free admission. Theatre for One can found at the following locations: at the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place from May 18-24, Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan from May 27-31, and Midtown’s Grace Building Plaza from June 2-6. This year, new plays were commissioned from Will Eno, Craig Lucas, Lynn Nottage, Jose Rivera, Emily Schwend, Thomas Bradshaw and Zayd Dohrn. They were asked to pen three-minute pieces that used this phrase as a jumping-off point: “I’m not the stranger you think I am.” The original works range in theme from a serial killer preying on African-American men to the death of a mother. The actors will be Andrew Garman, Carmen Zilles, Erin Gann, Marisol Miranda, Kevin Mambo and Keith Randolph Smith. The theater’s interior is said to be very comfortable, complete with red-padded walls and soft lighting. A stage manager will be in charge of sound levels and lighting cues. All three Manhattan locations are owned and operated by Brookfield Property Partners.
