Deer Hunt Proposed in Rock Creek Park

County officials are considering a planned deer hunt to be carried out by police sharpshooters in Rock Creek Park. Due to a deer population three times as large as the habitat can support, deer-related car crashes and agricultural damages are on the rise in portions of the park. In a effort to control deer populations, a controlled deer hunt has been proposed and the public has been invited to participate in a discussion regarding the proposal.

The hunt would be conducted from 5:30pm to sunrise, while the park is closed to visitors.
