Two dozen activists have been arrested after a protest against building a facility in Maryland that will liquefy and export natural gas. The protesters are against the plans by Dominion Resources to build the plant in Lusby, Maryland, because they are afraid the plant will help drillers who are fracking to extract vast quantities of previously inaccessible fuel. Mike Tidwell the director of Chesapeake Climate Action Network said 25 protesters were arrested Monday morning for blocking the entrance to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Dominion’s plans for building the plant must be approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The arrested protesters were released and received a $50 fine. Dominion stated that the $3.8 billion plan to reuse the existing facility in Calvert County will create thousands of jobs.
