Metro has announced plans to shut down Bethesda stops for 14 weekends beginning in 2016 to fix leaks. This plan is designed to cause the least disruption to commuters, while still allowing workers to fix the problems. Consistent leaking outside the Medical Center should be stopped, as well as basic concrete and tile replacement at other stations. Other planned improvements to the system include electrical work, new fare gates and an elevator to the Red Line at Elm Street and Wisconsin Avenue. The project is estimated to cost $12.2 million.
