Governor Larry Hogan will be traveling to Asia on a trade trip next week. Ben Wu, deputy secretary for the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, stated on Thursday that the trade mission (to South Korea, China and Japan) is scheduled for twelve days. Officials and businesses will promote the state of Maryland as a gateway to the U.S. market. The business excursion is also being made to help position Maryland companies for new trade and investment opportunities in foreign markets. About thirty-six people are going, including First Lady Yumi Hogan, who is of Korean descent. Fifteen of them are business executives. Wu added that the state is funding the trip, and the business executives will be paying their own way. The estimated cost for the trip is about $140,000.
