Kathleen Matthews planning to run for Congress

Kathleen Matthews, spouse of MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, is considering a bid for the U.S House of Representatives for Maryland’s 8th congressional district in the 2016 elections. Matthews is currently Marriott International’s executive vice president and chief global communications and public affairs officer. She will run for Representative Chris Van Hollen’s House seat. Matthews, a former ABC 7 anchor, is talking with Democratic activists and interviewing consultants. Matthews sits on the boards of Catholic Charities Foundation, Ford’s Theatre and Shakespeare Theatre Co., and has been talking about running for political office for years. Van Hollen announced Wednesday that he will be running for the Senate seat being vacated by Senator Barbara Mikulski.
