The 2016 Primary elections in Maryland proved to be a winning night for some veteran politicians.  Representative Chris Van Hollen defeated Representative Donna Edwards to fill the seat of the retiring Senator Barbara Mikulski.  Former Lt. Governor Anthony Brown defeated Glenn Ivey for District 4 to fill a seat in the House of Representatives.  Jamie Raskin defeated stalwarts David Trone and Kathleen Matthews for the District 8 House seat.   In Baltimore, Catherine Pugh defeated Sheila Dixon in her bid to fill the seat of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who will not seek re-election.  Both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton won the GOP and Democrat primaries, respectively, in their bids for president.
