Maryland – Prosecutors introduce rough ride theory in Gray trial

0

Prosecutors introduced a new theory in the case against Officer Caesar Goodson, the driver of the van in which Freddie Gray sustained a fatal spinal injury. Prosecutors said Goodson, who faces second-degree murder among other charges, intentionally gave Gray a “rough ride” in the back the van by blowing through a stop sign and making a sharp turn at high speed. Gray wasn’t buckled and was thrown against the rear compartment of the van. This accusation was the first time prosecutors said Goodson intentionally meant to hurt Gray. The state will present a video to help prove the prosecution’s case, said Chief Deputy State’s Attorney Michael Schatzow. “There was no good reason for the defendant not to belt him in, except to bounce him around,” he said.
