The Montgomery County Republican Party has revoked support of County Council candidate Jim Kirkland (R), after material came to light exposing anti-Semitic statements made by Kirkland. Kirkland remains on the official ballot for the general District 1 seat election, as he ran unopposed in the June primary election. The comments were made in an email to a Washington Post reporter in February, and were released to the county’s Republican Party for review Tuesday evening. County Chairman Michael Higgs explained that there is no vetting process for primary candidates, and that Kirkland running unopposed allowed a lack of investigation into the candidate.
