Federal investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are in Frederick County to investigate the fatal Thursday afternoon midair crash involving a helicopter and a private plane. The plane’s pilot was in communication with air traffic control just before the plane hit one of the three helicopters that were performing training exercises in the area. Three passengers of the helicopter were found dead at the scene: Christopher D. Parsons, 29 of Westminster, William Jenkins, 47, of Morrison, Colo. and Breandan J. MacFawn, 35, of Cumberland. Two Montgomery County men, Gilbert Porter, 75 of Sandy Spring and Scott V. Graeves, 55, of Brookeville, suffered minor injuries and have been released from the hospital. They allege that they owe their survival to the successful deployment of an emergency parachute. Investigations continue.
