A Washington, D.C. jury has convicted four Blackwater Worldwide guards in connection with the 2007 killing of 14 unarmed Iraqis, and wounding of 17 others by machine guns and grenades. Each was convicted on at least come of the manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and firearms charges. Nicholas A. Slatten, of Sparta, Tenn., was convicted of murder. Paul A. Slough of Keller, Tex.; Evan S. Liberty of Rochester, N.H.; and Dustin L. Heard of Knoxville, Tenn. were also convicted on other charges. The case has taken years to get to court, and the name of Blackwater has become synonymous with the criticism of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Charges were first brought in 2008.
