Hundreds arrested in Wall Street protests

Over 700 protesters were arrested Saturday in New York at the Brooklyn Bridge. Police cited they were blocking the roadway. Many were eventually released but given tickets. The protesters are part of the Occupy Wall Street movement, a demonstration against corporate greed, the state of the economy, and other grievances. It is their third week of the campaign, and the arrests did not slow them. Some of the protestors are now organizing smaller rallies against police brutality.

The Occupy Wall Street movement claims to represent “the 99%,” referring to the sharp divide between the wealthiest Americans and the rest of society. As the movement gains in strength and numbers, similar protests have cropped up in other cities across the nation.
