DC mayor facing fundraising deadline

Reports are due by midnight on Friday for the candidates for mayor of Washington. These reports will be the first test of Mayor Vincent Gray’s financial strength since entering the race in December. Previous reports were due days after Gray joined the race and he hadn’t raised any money yet. Gray’s campaign stated on Thursday in emails sent to supporters that it will be outspent. Fellow competitors in the race are D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans, who has raised more than $1 million, and Councilmember Muriel Bowser, who had raised $920,000 as of mid-December. Councilmembers Vincent Orange and Tommy Wells are also challenging Gray in the Democratic primary in April, as well as former State Department official Reta Lewis and restaurateur Andy Shallal. Also considering a bid in the general election is Independent Councilmen David Catania.
