A Washington Post poll has revealed that the Republican Party has a likely advantage over the Democrats going into the midterm elections next week. The poll showed that 50 percent of likely voters plan to vote Republican and 44 percent Democrat. Registered voters overall, however, are likely to vote 47 percent Democrat and 44 percent Republican. The polls overall show dissatisfaction with the current congress and administration, with 60 percent saying they cannot trust Washington to do what is right, similar to the numbers just after last year’s shutdown. Rather than assigning this fault to the Republicans in Congress, the poll reports that more who distrust the government blame Obama and the Democrats at a rate of 3 to 1. The Post reports that only 2 in 3 people say they are closely following the campaigns, down from the 3 in 4 for the similar 2010 midterm elections.
