Virginia – Inmate found dead in courthouse holding cell

Authorities are investigating after finding 23-year-old Aaron M. Steele of Campbell County dead in a holding cell at the Amherst County courthouse Thursday. Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corrine Geller says Steele was awaiting his hearing and had been taken to the courthouse. According to officials, a deputy had spoken to Steele at one point, but when the deputy returned, Steele was dead. Geller says at this time, his death does not appear to be suspicious and his body has been taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
