Bowser defeats Gray in Democratic primary

District of Columbia Councilmember Muriel Bowser defeated Mayor Vincent Gray in Tuesday’s Democratic primary, capitalizing on voter’s weariness of an ongoing scandal surrounding Gray’s 2010 campaign. Bowser will be facing independent Councilmember David Catania in what could be an unusually competitive general election. The Democratic nominee has won every general election since district voters began electing their own mayor 40 years ago. During a news conference on Wednesday Bowser said that she will work to bring Democrats together and would welcome support of the ongoing mayor, not pledging to back him if he won the primary.
