Today is the first day to apply for a D.C. concealed carry permit after the law was changed last month. Residents and non-residents are both eligible to apply, as long as they present a specific reason for needing one. NBC Washington reports that those who have received death threats or have been the victim of domestic violence may be more likely to be granted permits. The concealed carry permit requires passing a more intensive safety course than regular gun permits. Concealed carry permits are still restricted near government buildings, presidential motorcades and foreign dignitaries.
