Congressional delegation criticizes Metro safety issues

A delegation of Congress members from areas near Washington expressed concern about the safety of the Metro subway system following a briefing by the Federal Train Administration. The FTA released a nearly 300-page report about the overall safety quality of the Metro on Wednesday, citing many safety problems. This investigation follows a ventilation accident in January that left one woman dead and 80 others sick after the train filled with smoke. Because of this incident, the FTA ordered the inspection of train tunnel ventilation systems throughout the nation.
