A D.C. man was charged with abducting and assaulting a woman in an alley, then firing a gun at police. Forty-five-year-old Kirk Cheeks has been sentenced to twelve years in federal prison for his crimes. Cheeks has prior drug, weapons and felony assault convictions on his record. The incident happened on February 2, 2014 on the 700 block of Girard Street NW. Cheeks invited the victim back to his house, and as the two were strolling through an alley, he put the woman in a chokehold and dragged her behind a building. Neighbors heard the victim screaming for help and called 911. Prosecutors stated that Cheeks attempted to open fire on the officers who responded to the scene.
