D.C. Police Chief Cathy L Lanier will testify before a D.C. Council hearing Monday to address concerns about “stop-and-frisk” practices by the police department. Councilmember Tommy Wells has previously stated that there is “a deep racism” in implementation of the policy, and that it is being used aggressively against African-American residents. Wells called Monday’s meeting, partially relation to the summer’s events in Ferguson, Missouri, including the protests which continue today. Lanier this month launched a pilot program to test body cameras, now worn by about 160 D.C. officers.
