Families protest no sledding on Capitol Hill ban

The Capitol Police Board denied a request from Delegate Eleanor Holmes (D-D.C.) to temporarily waive the ban on sledding on Capitol Hill. The announcement came after protesters started a change.org petition and held a “sled-in” on Capitol Hill on Thursday afternoon, despite a warning from Capitol Police that sledding is prohibited there. The Capitol Police Board issued a statement late Wednesday stating that it was their job to protect the Capitol grounds from being damaged. The statement added, sledding can be dangerous. Photos on Twitter depict a few dozen children and parents gathered on Capitol Hill, taking advantage of the several inches of snow that blanketed the D.C. area. Holmes confirmed that Capitol Police were not enforcing the ban that day. She later tweeted her thanks to the police.
