The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts approved Frank Gehry’s memorial design, which honors Dwight D. Eisenhower, on Thursday. The National Planning Commission must also approve the design before it can be implemented. The project is expected to cost $140 million. Congress has appropriated $63 million so far and the Eisenhower Memorial Commission is also raising funds. The design includes statues of Eisenhower in a memorial park and a metal tapestry of the Kansas landscape, Eisenhower’s birth state.
