Four robberies reported near popular bike trail

Four knife-point robberies were reported over the weekend, on or next to the popular Metropolitan Branch Trail in Northeast D.C.  According to the police, the incidents appeared connected and victims were asked to give up their cellphones and numeric codes. All four robberies happened on Sunday at the 700 block of Edgewood Street NE, the 500 block of V Street NE and the 2800 block of Eighth Street NE. In each case, the victims were accosted by one or two young black men, described as in their late teens or early 20s. They were said to be somewhere between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 11. One of the robbers was said to have had a bush ponytail. The robberies occurred at different times of the day, the earliest at 11:00  a.m. and the latest at 7:30 p.m.  None of the victims were physically harmed. The trail has been the site of numerous crimes (past and present), including robberies and sexual assaults.
