D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser will formally announce Gregory Dean as the new D.C. Fire Department chief Monday morning. Dean will take over for interim Chief Eugene Jones. Jones took the helm after Kenneth Ellerbe resigned as chief in the wake of a slew of mistakes made by the fire department. Former Seattle Fire Chief Dean retired in October of last year after a decade in charge. He was in the middle of a controversy about a year ago, after two off-duty firefighters and a woman were charged with assaulting a homeless man in Seattle’s Pioneer Square. Dean apologized to the public for the two firefighters’ alleged involvement in the incident.
