When Grammy-winning violinist Joshua Bell played his $3 million violin on the Metro in 2007, pretty much no one noticed. That is, until the video from the social experiment’s hidden cameras was released in a Washington Post story, and the world gained a metaphor for not stopping to smell the roses. Or, rather, not paying attention to the underground virtuoso. He is going to do it again. This time, Bell and nine of the students he has mentored will play in the main hall of Union Station from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. on September 30, to promote music education. This “In Case You Missed It” concert is also partially related to Bell’s perfectionist tendencies, as he feels he didn’t play well enough the first time for that performance to be his legacy, and he’s calling a do-over.
