Mayor Gray opposes Chick-fil-A expansion
Washington, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray said he will not support an expanded presence for Chick-fil-A in the district because the president of the fast-food chain is opposed to gay marriage. The Democratic mayor referred to the company’s product as “hate chicken” in a tweet on Friday. Gray supports LGBT rights and marriage equality, and mayors in Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco had similar statements. The mayors said the company was not welcome to their neighborhoods.
The company has no immediate plans to expand in the city. A Chick-fil-A spokesman said the company has “biblically based principles” but will no longer participate in the debate over same-sex marriage.
