Mayor Vincent Gray opened a new middle school that will highlight study in world languages and the arts Saturday. The Brookland Middle School in Northeast is on the site of an elementary school that closed in 2008. The school will open next August in Ward 5, the only stand-alone middle school in the Ward. The school comprises 10,000 square feet, and includes a theatre, a gymnasium, a media center, two performing arts practice rooms and a digital arts lab.
