Senator Mark Warner addresses Metro radio communication issues

U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D-Virginia), wants to address radio communication problems that were brought to light by the January 12 Metro smoke incident. He stated that if the radios had of been working properly, there might not have been near the amount of pain and suffering that took place. Warner also commented that the radio issues prevented D.C. Fire and EMS personnel from communicating with one another and with Metro officials. He wants Metro and COG to work together to create a process that ensures the reliability of the radio networks. The process would involve agencies sharing information, especially if one agency makes a significant change to its radio network that would impact with other emergency radio networks. Metro was notified about problems with the radio at the L’Enfant Plaza on January 8, four days before the January 12 incident.
