Southeast D.C. teen charged with assault

Police arrested 19-year-old Jerlyu Wood in connection with a shooting in Southeast D.C. The incident happened Friday afternoon near Stanton Elementary School. The young man was arrested on charges with assault with intent to kill. Police did not comment on what initially sparked the shooting or how they connected Wood to the crime. Police added that when they arrived at the site of the shooting, they found a juvenile male suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital immediately and remains in critical condition. As of Sunday, Wood’s case has not been listed in online court records. It is not known if a lawyer has been retained on his behalf.
