Washington, DC – DEA to keep nearly $18k found at Union Station

0

A judge has ruled Wednesday that federal agents will keep nearly $18,000 found in a backpack on an Amtrak train in Washington’s Union Station. Two New York City women made formal claims for the cash, but the judge ruled they were not credible enough to receive the money. The cash, instead, will be handed over to the Drug Enforcement Agency. The backpack full of cash was found in 2014 when a good Samaritan told police he had found a backpack containing $17,900 and mistakenly carried it off a train. Authorities traced the backpack to a man named Peter Rodriguez, who was later arrested for selling drugs.
