White House fence jumper trial delayed for evaluation

Omar Gonzalez, the man who jumped the White House fence and ran through the front door with a knife in September, has been ordered into a mental health evaluation what will delay his trial. Gonzalez, a veteran, was indicted with two federal counts of assaulting an officer and a D.C. count of unlawful weapons possession. U.S. District Judge Rosemary M. Collyer delayed trial for 30 days for the evaluation, stating that Gonzalez “still deserves [the country’s]respect.” The Sept. 19 incident catalyzed criticisms of the Secret Service and factored into the resignation of Director Julia Pierson.
