Canadian Parliament gunman identified

The man who shot and killed a Canadian soldier on duty at a war memorial in the nation’s capital Wednesday before running to the Parliament building and firing at security has been identified. The gunman was Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, 32, is a Canadian citizen from Montreal who was previously flagged as a “high-risk traveller” by the Canadian government and had his passport seized. A U.S. law enforcement official has stated that Zehaf-Bibeau changed his name from Micheal Joseph Hall upon his conversion to Islam. He is sometimes known as Abdullah Zehaf-Bibeau. Inside the Parliament building, Zehaf-Bibeau was shot and killed by the security sergeant-at-arms. The soldier who was killed has been identified as Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, of the reserve forces. The possibility of connection with Monday’s event involving a vehicle attack on two uniformed soldiers in Ottawa is still be investigated.
