South African former Olympian Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to a total of eight years in jail in connection with the shooting death of Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013. Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide, where a person was killed unlawfully but unintentionally. Pistorius has been sentenced to the maximum five years for the culpable homicide conviction, and three additional years on a firearms charge. He must serve at least 10 months, one sixth of his total sentence, before he can ask to be placed under house arrest.
