2-year-old girl dies after being left in car for 16 hours

A Baltimore man has been charged with murder and child abuse after his two-year-old daughter was found locked in his car overnight. Wilbert Leon Carter, 31, had been drinking alcohol on Sunday and a friend drove him back to the Dundalk area late that night. Carter did not wake up until 4p.m. on Monday and had no recollection of the car’s location or when he got home. Carter says his cousin located the car that evening and he found the girl unresponsive within the vehicle. Carter, who told police that he was his daughter’s only caregiver, has a history of heavy drinking.
