3 University of Virginia students sue Rolling Stone over rape story

Three graduates of the University of Virginia have filed a lawsuit in New York against Rolling Stone for publishing a debunked article about a gang rape at their fraternity. They say that the publication of the article resulted in “vicious and hurtful attacks” on them and made it easy for readers to determine who the attackers were from the article. They are also suing Rolling Stone’s publisher, Wenner Media, and the author of the article, Sabrina Erdely. Earlier, in May, an associate dean at the University of Virginia sued Rolling Stone for over $7.5 million for portraying her as the “chief villain” in the article.
