A black conservative pastors group has requested the removal of the bust of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger from the Smithsonia’s National Portrait Gallery, saying that it is more offensive than the Confederate flag. On Thursday, the pastors and others gathered in front the of the gallery and protested, chanting “you must remove the bust.” E.W. Jackson and other activists argued that various statements of Sanger’s proved that she was a racist, and therefore unworthy of being placed alongside civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks. He said they were adding “insult to injury” by including her in the Struggle for Justice exhibit. Jackson has gathered 14,000 signatures to have the bust removed. The National Portrait Gallery has said it won’t remove the bust, and that there is no “moral test” for people to be displayed in the gallery.
