Boston mayor refuses to sign contract for 2024 Olympics

Boston’s mayor, Marty Walsh, has refused to sign a contract to host the 2024 Olympics. His financially motivated decision is not final, however, and he awaits a report from a consulting group next month before making his decision. The U.S. government does not offer funding for Olympic games held in the U.S., so the extra costs would be on the local government. Mayor Walsh has stated that he is not willing to spend any taxpayers’ money on hosting the Olympics. If the USOC (United States Olympic Committee) is unable to get the cooperation of Boston, they may turn to Los Angeles.
