District election officials have approved the language of a proposal to increase the minimum wage to $15 per hour in the city. The minimum wage will increase to $11.50 an hour next year because of a previous law the D.C. Council approved in 2013. The new proposal calls for a gradual increase in the minimum wage until it reaches $15 an hour in 2020. The initiative must gain about 23,000 signatures in order to get on next year’s ballot.
