D.C. police offer increased rewards for helping recover illegal guns

On Wednesday, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Cathy Lanier announced that they are increasing the reward for providing information that leads to the recovery of an illegal gun from $1,000 to $2,500. They are also offering the same reward for information leading to the seizure of high capacity magazines. In a letter to the public, Bowser revealed some statistics on illegal guns: 944 were recovered by the police this year, 102 in the past month, and 10 last weekend. She wrote that in spite of the constant police efforts, the help of the public was needed to keep illegal guns out of the community. She also announced a new $10,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction in a shooting.
