On Wednesday a reporter who had been fired in 2013, Vester Lee Flanagan, murdered two of his former co-workers on live television. Flanagan approached the WDBJ reporter Alison Parker and the cameraman Adam Ward as they were conducting an interview and shot them both down with a handgun. He fired 15 shots and then fled the scene. The interviewee was injured but not killed. Hours after the killing, Flanagan shared his own recording of the murders on social media. He also sent a 23-page fax to ABC News, in which he described himself as a mistreated minority, expressed admiration for gunmen in school shootings, and then described himself as a “human powder keg” that was “just waiting to go BOOM!!!!” He was later taken to a hospital with a self-inflicted gun wound and died.
