Former Virginia House speaker and Norfolk treasurer Thomas Moss Jr. died on Thursday at age 87 after suffering a fatal heart attack. Moss, a member of the state House of Delegates for 36 years, served as House Speaker for 9 years from 1991-2000 before becoming the Norfolk city treasurer. House Speaker William Howell said the length of Moss’ service “reflects his tireless commitment to fellow citizens of the Commonwealth.” He called Moss a fierce competitor who was passionate about his beliefs and had a sharp sense of humor.
