House approves raising of debt ceiling

187 Democrats and 79 Republicans voted for a budget deal on Wednesday to raise the nation’s debt ceiling through 2017, potentially avoiding a fiscal crisis if a default on loans happened, for an easy 266-167 pass. “We close where we started, as we all recognize this agreement is not perfect. But it certainly beats the alternative and it is a positive step forward. It ensures the full faith and credit of the United States — we will pay our bills on time,” said Maryland representative Chris Van Hollen.
