Metro board to meet on discipline for derailment

Metro’s board of directors will meet on Wednesday to discuss the derailment earlier this month, and possible disciplinary action against any workers responsible for it. The meeting will not be public, but a report of over 100 pages on the investigation into the derailment will be released by the end of the week. The issue that caused the train to go off the tracks outside the Smithsonian Station had been identified in the month prior to the derailment, but it was not rectified. Many local leaders have blamed this incident and other issues on a lack of leadership caused by the recent retirement of general manager Richard Sarles, who has not been replaced yet. Nobody was on the train at the time of the derailment and nobody was injured, but it did cause a nine-hour closure of several rail lines.
