Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift have Twitter feud over VMAs

After the announcement of VMA nominations, Nicki Minaj took to Twitter to express her frustration about the double-standard in the music industry for black women. Minaj, who was not nominated for her highly-viewed “Anaconda” video, tweeted that videos featuring women who fit the narrow standards of beauty are the only ones who receive awards. She declared, “Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it.” Taylor Swift, whose “Bad Blood” video was nominated for video of the year, took offense to Minaj’s comments, tweeting to her, “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..” The majority of Twitter took Nicki’s side in the feud, saying that Minaj made an important point about the music industry and that Swift should have supported her message.
